Here’s a crazy idea: make your home cosy so you can be more productive. In Yin / Yang theory, yin is the cosy quality, it is the sharing, togetherness, sleeping, eating, sex, business of chores that glues us all together. Family get-togethers are a great time to notice this Yin and think about how to bring more Yin into our lives.
The reason you need to make your home more Yin is that out of all this Yin, Yang emerges. This Yang is the gift of children, enhanced productivity and the glitter of your career. The fortune cookie sadly over-simplifies when it tells us we need to have a balance of Yin and Yang in our homes. We do need a balance, but first we need to create the circumstance in which the triumph of Yang can be created…Yin.
How I brought Yin into my home
In my own home I use the most basic Feng Shui hack to create seamless cosiness. The hack? It’s one we all know – using the same colour throughout the home. This rule counts for double when you are picking paint colours, and the key is to pick one colour and stick with it. As my Feng Shui Master used to say of feature walls: ‘This is not the United Nations’.
The colour I use is a a beautiful creamy yellow called Modesty from Porter’s Paints. The soft baby chick yellow is a real go-to for creating a neutral backdrop to our busy lives. At night we turn down the lights, light a candle and all is well with the world.
Wishing you Health and Happiness,
